Overview

YouQ is an AI-powered wellness app and the companion to the Citizen CZ Smart watch. It reads your energy levels, heart rate, alertness, sleep and activity from the watch, runs them through AI, and presents them back as a gamified experience that tells you when to push and when to rest.

My role

I built the iOS app in collaboration with a WestLink team of a designer, an Android developer, QA, backend and ML engineers, and delivered it against a hard CES deadline.

Hardest part

Everything depends on a Bluetooth watch that is not always in range. Pairing has to survive users walking away mid-sync, and a wellness app that shows an empty screen when the watch is off is useless.

I built the pairing and sync flow around a Core Data cache: readings are persisted as they arrive, the UI always renders from local data, and syncing reconciles in the background. The app stays fully readable offline, and a dropped connection is a delay rather than a dead screen.

Architecture & stack

Swift and SwiftUI in MVVM, with a Moya-based network layer split per domain (activity, sleep, readiness, profile) and Core Data as the offline store.

CoreBluetooth for watch pairing and sync, Google Fit integration for external data, OneSignal for push, Firebase for analytics and crash reporting, Lottie for the animated wellness visuals, Localize-Swift for localization, and Zendesk for in-app support. XCTest for unit and integration tests.
